Intrigas de Estado 
Baseado na série homônima de Peter Abbott para a BBC, Intrigas de Estado (State of Play, 2009) é o filme certo na hora certa para gerar uma discussão relevante sobre o mundo em que vivemos, especialmente no que diz respeito ao futuro da informação. A divergência de opiniões entre o bom e o mau jornalismo, assim como o velho e o novo, foi elevada ao cubo graças ao inevitável momento de transição das mídias e a consequente crise da imprensa. Temos uma série de questões: As pessoas ainda querem ler jornais e revistas de papel? Aliás, o que é notícia hoje em dia? E o que vale mais? Notas rápidas ou matérias bem trabalhadas? Blogs e outras mídias sociais merecem a nossa atenção? Para exercer o jornalismo, o profissional precisa de diploma? Nosso atual governo acha que não. Mas e quanto a você?
Enfim, só por isso, Intrigas de Estado é urgente e obrigatório. De qualquer forma, não estamos aqui para discutir jornalismo. Felizmente, Intrigas de Estado é cinema da melhor qualidade. Tem ótimos atores, uma história atual e complexa, mas extremamente bem amarrada pelos roteiristas Matthew Michael Carnahan, Tony Gilroy e Billy Ray, que jamais deixam o espectador perdido com a sensação de "piscou, perdeu", embora, obviamente, não seja o filme adequado para quem pensa que cinema é videoclipe. E olha que temos muitas personagens (com falas) vivendo situações cruciais para uma trama que oferece reviravoltas muito bem executadas até o último segundo. É um roteiro de primeira.
Outra peça importante é o diretor Kevin Macdonald, de O Último Rei da Escócia. Com a ajuda da fotografia de Rodrigo Prieto e a montagem de Justine Wright, o diretor expressa a busca pela verdade e a falta de privacidade do indivíduo com belas tomadas que sugerem uma testemunha oculta registrando as ações das personagens. Algumas são impressionantes, porque chegamos a acreditar, em certos momentos, que há realmente uma pessoa observando as investigações de Russell Crowe e Rachel McAdams.
Crowe é Cal McAffrey, repórter investigativo do fictício Washington Globe. É um dinossauro em seu ofício, detetive nato, dono de fontes precisas, inteligentíssimo e voltado 100% para o trabalho como ferramenta para descobrir e divulgar a verdade. Isso faz dele um sujeito pouco preocupado com sua saúde e aparência, além de ser 0% dedicado a sua vida pessoal. Rachel McAdams é Della Frye, a jovem jornalista responsável pelo blog sensacionalista do Washington Globe. Juntos, eles investigam o assassinato da amante de Stephen Collins (Ben Affleck), um Congressista (Ben Affleck) obcecado em derrubar uma poderosa empresa do ramo armamentista. Só que Cal é amigo de Stephen desde a faculdade e Della desconfia que o colega de trabalho esteja misturando interesses pessoais e profissionais para a ajudar o político. Mas Cal persegue a matéria perfeita. Della, por sua vez, tem o perfil atual de seu jornal e no papel da tradicional "foca", quer dar a sua editora (Helen Mirren) qualquer furo sensacionalista.
Entre a disputa e a colaboração, a relação de Della e Cal dá o tom do filme. O diretor Kevin Macdonald aproveita isso para deixar o espectador grudado na cadeira do cinema torcendo pelos dois. É um filme tão tenso, que ainda não consigo lembrar da última vez que me senti assim dentro de uma sala de cinema. É claro que nada disso funcionaria se não houvesse uma boa química entre Rachel McAdams, bela e ótima atriz, e Russell Crowe, que é um ator estupendo e camaleônico. Seu Cal McAffrey é fascinante. Um contraponto é Stephen Collins, personagem de Ben Affleck. Mesmo que tenham estudado juntos, ambos se tornaram pessoas completamente diferentes - passando pelo jeito de se vestirem até características que definem as pessoas, como postura, atitude. Enquanto Russell Crowe é perfeito para fazer de Cal um homem decidido e destemido, a canastrice de Ben Affleck é ideal para compôr Stephen Collins. Penso que a escolha do elenco não foi mera coincidência.
Há um ponto interessante nas atitudes de Cal, que esbarram no politicamente incorreto, de vez em quando, aproximando-o de outros sanguessugas. Mas será que ninguém presta neste mundo? É um sentimento que fica evidente nos belos créditos finais. Ao som da maravilhosa canção Long as I Can See the Light, do Creedance Clearwater Revival, o que se vê na tela resume a importância de um profissional como Cal. Dá proporções épicas a sua jornada pela verdade. Principalmente na parte da música que diz "não vou perder meu caminho... não enquanto eu estiver vendo a luz..."
Você pode até não admitir no fim da sessão, mas Intrigas de Estado passa a ser fundamental para professores universitários e jovens que ainda querem estudar jornalismo. Como cinema é um dos melhores filmes já feitos sobre a profissão (e seus protagonistas), ao lado de Todos os Homens do Presidente, O Informante e Boa Noite e Boa Sorte. Mas ao contrário desses filmes citados, Intrigas de Estado é uma obra de ficção. E desde A Montanha dos Sete Abutres, de Billy Wilder, que Hollywood não produz algo tão bom sobre jornalismo sem se basear em eventos reais. Não são delírios. São fatos que comprovam Intrigas de Estado como um dos melhores filmes de 2009.

O que eu mais gostei neste filme é que ele faz uma discussão ética profunda. Adorei a dualidade dos personagens Cal e Stephen. Além do excelente roteiro, temos em tela ótimos atores, em grandes momentos. Só queria saber se teria sido uma experiência diferente se Brad Pitt e Edward Norton estivessem nos lugares de Russell Crowe e Ben Affleck, como era originalmente pretendido pelo diretor Kevin Macdonald....
